Conventional dentures require a healing period before they are placed. Once teeth are removed, the gum tissue is allowed to heal for 8 to 12 weeks before conventional dentures can be placed.

The option of immediate dentures does come with more dental visits as bones and gums shrink over time, requiring more adjustments to fit properly.
